Genevieve (Genny) Maltby

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Addictions & Drug Counselor [LCSW, CADC]

Genevieve (Genny) began her career as a Special Education Teacher with Harlem School District for more than ten years.  Caring for children and adolescents in that role inspired her to expand her breath of knowledge and her skillset by going back to school to earn her Masters in Social Work and more recently, her Doctorate in Social Work. Genny continues to work with the young population as a school social worker at Harlem School District.  Her thirst for knowledge and experience led her to join Restore Counseling & Recovery, to join in facilitating our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in process addictions as well as to offer individual counseling services to clients of all ages - and particularly to couples looking to improve their relationships.

Genny has worked in therapeutic setting with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples.  Genny provides treatment for individuals struggling with symptoms of anxiety or depression, emotional struggles, self-esteem challenges, trauma, and those looking for greater fulfillment and peace in their life journey.  One of her areas of expertise is working with couples on relationship challenges such as communication.  She embraces challenging dynamics and prides herself in offering an impartial and experienced lens through which to redefine priorities and boundaries relationally as well as individually.

Genny's empathic and encouraging approach allows those she serves to feel heard and supported.  She is a strong believer that helping others is a privilege and she feels honored to play a role in another individual's journey.

When she is not working, Genevieve loves to cook and bake for her significant other and grown daughter, who just moved close to her, per Genny's delight.  She loves running, writing, and reading (particularly research, autobiographies, and war stories) and she loves seeing movies with similar themes.  She was a costume designer in a former life and enjoys sewing and creating.

"We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch."

- E.E. Cummings
